Is there a future for the Elie Parish Church?

In September a newly formed Elie Parish Church Group held the Doors Open Day and had around 110 people visit the church on the day. The open day gave people the opportunity to see how the church space could be repurposed and to ask questions. We received lots of positive comments and feedback from those who came along to the open day. Based on this we moved ahead with plans to form a Community Benefit Society (CBS) which would allow us to progress with a feasibility study and apply for funding to help support the feasibility study.  We are working with The Plunkett Foundation who are supporting us in setting up the CBS and have a further meeting with them later this month to progress this. We have also been learning from other groups who have been through similar acquisitions and recently attended a meeting held by the National Churches Trust - Building Sustainable Futures for Scottish Churches which was held at Paisley Abbey on 1 November where case studies were shared. The group is currently working to obtain quotes for the necessary tasks required for the feasibility study which include an independent valuation, a condition survey by a building surveyor, a high level business plan and an architect to support with proposed plans.

We have kept the Church of Scotland updated on the progress and made them aware that the community would be interested in taking ownership of the church when it is disposed of.

07 May 2025E&ECC's Participation Request to the Scottish Ambulance Service

Elie & Earlsferry Community Council made a Participation Request to the Scottish Ambulance Service which sought to increase the number of trained Community First Responders in the East Neuk of Fife through the provision of local training.

Also, through extension of Community First Responder call categories, the Participation Request sought to enable the Community First Responders to attend Immediately Life-Threatening calls (ILTs) for which they are trained and willing to attend. This would support a move announced by the Scottish Ambulance Service in June 2022, towards a more flexible model with a tiered level of Responders. The Participation Request was submitted on 8 August 2024.

05 March 2025Participation Request to SRUC – Elmwood College Interim Report

Future of Elmwood College - EECC submit a Participation Request

A Participation Request (PR) was submitted by Elie & Earlsferry Community Council to the Scottish Rural College (SRUC) in March 2024. The Community Council was seeking improved educational outcomes for the students in Fife through improved local access to land-based courses at Elmwood College. At Cupar in Fife in the East of Scotland, the SRUC had announced plans to close down and demolish the main building at Elmwood College. They had closed down the student accommodation the previous year. They also intended to seriously scale back on the courses they offered. Horticulture was to be saved but the College would be losing its nursery where they grow trees. MORE
